Variable delay apparatus for optical signals

The device receives an optical input signal (Ex) which is modulated between a high state and a low state. A coupler (C) provides n outputs (a1-an) which have variable delays. The delay lines are applied to wavelength converters (K1-Kn) for output and amplification according to the selected wavelength. The outputs are fed to a multiplexer (M) and a combined signal is produced (Sx).
