NEAR-VIDEO-ON-DEMAND DIGITAL VIDEO DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM UTILIZING ASYMMETRIC DIGITAL SUBSCRIBER LINES (ADSL)

A near-video-on-demand (NVOD) distribution system using ADSL telephone links (15, 45) in which the wide band portion is used to transmit a video signal to the subscriber's settop box (43) and the narrowband portion is used to transmit a signal from the subscriber to the headend. In addition each settop box has a buffer which stores the current segment of the video program and is replenished with next segment just before the current segment is used, so that the video program runs continuously.
