Tear-strips (T) are formed by transverse cutting of a sheet of tear-strip material (B) by a cutter (118) with a rotary blade (120) which cooperates with counter blades (122) carried by a continuously moving transfer member (124). The transfer member (124) has a plurality of elements each of which carries a counter blade (122) and has means for gripping the cut tear-strip and transporting it to a second region for application to a sheet of wrapping (F). At the point of application the peripheral velocity of the transfer member (124) is substantially equal to the speed of advance of the sheet of wrapping. A further rotating member (126) is disposed on the other side of the wrapping at the point of application of the tear-strip, and carries a plurality of striker blocks (128) which act with the transfer member to grip the wrapping and the tear-strip and apply heat if necessary. The preferred use of the device is for automatic packaging machines for products such as food products. |
