The invention is a hydraulic safety brake for reducing automobile speed by detecting trouble in the oil pump or leakage in the hydraulic lines. The device comprises a hydraulic cylinder(30) supplied with compressed oil from the accumulator(4); a piston(32) sliding in cylinder(30); a throttle lever(38) actuating an auxiliary throttle valve(40) through a throttle cable(36); an auxiliary throttle valve(40) blocking the inducted air independent of the main throttle valve(20); a spring(34) encased in the hydraulic cylinder(30) moving the auxiliary throttle valve(40) and applying pressure to the piston(32) if the pressure drops; an orifice in hydraulic line(26); a pressure transmitter(24); and a warning light(44).
