The novel chemical compounds 1-[6-(2,2'-dipyridyl)]-1'-[1-hexan-6-thiol] ferrocene and 1-[6-(2,2'-dipyridyl)]-1'-[1-hexan-6-ol] ferrocene are used respectively on substrates of gold and carbon to provide electrodes which may be employed respectively to detect low concentrations of specific transition metal ions in the presence of other metal ions and to remove specific metal ions from dilute aqueous solutions containing them. |
