To provide a projection display apparatus having improving cooling efficiency, the apparatus comprising an optical unit 9 for forming an optical image in response to image information by optically treating light beams emitted from a light source lamp unit 8 and for expansively projecting the optical image on a projection screen through a projection lens 6, a power unit 7, and a protective case 2 encasing the optical unit and the power unit; there is provided inside said power unit a ventilating path A3 for circulating cooling air, a cooling air intake port means 150,170 formed on said protective case for providing cooling air separately to the optical unit and said ventilating path of the power unit whereby cooling air is directly conducted to the ventilating path of the power unit. Since the interior of the power unit 7 can be cooled by the exterior air cooler than the air inside the protective case 2, cooling efficiency can be enhanced.
