PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform the prevention and treatment of disorders and diseases caused by oxidizing stress by using L-carnitine and an alkanoy1-L-carnitine in combination with a natural lipophilic antioxidant or hydrophilic antioxidant, thereby exerting synergistic effect of the components. SOLUTION: (A) L-carnitine, an alkanoyl-L-carnitine (the alkanoyl group is a 2-6C straight or branched-chain alkanoyl group) or their pharmacologically permissible salt is used in combination with or in the form of a mixture with (B) a lipophilic antioxidant (preferably vitamin E and vitamin A) and/or a hydrophilic antioxidant (preferably vitamin C, glutathione or selenium). The alkanoyl-L-carnitine is preferably selected from acetyl-, propionyl-, butyryl-, valeryl- and isovaleryl-L-carnitines. The combined use of the components A and B eliminates the toxic action caused by the molecular oxygen reduction product to achieve a remarkable therapeutic effect. |
