PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a spherical or columnar molded body free from unevenness and almost free from holes, to reduce the number of working processes after molding and to ensure superior durability by molding ceramics by a centrifugal molding method and sintering it. SOLUTION: A slurry prepd. by mixing ceramic powder with a solvent such as water or alcohol is centrifugally molded. Since the powder is uniformly filled into the molding space by gravity, the interior of the resultant molded body is made free from unevenness and almost free from holes. The size of the powder is several μm or below, preferably <=1μm. Centrifugal force at the time of the molding is regulated to <=1,000G. The size of the holes is preferably <=5μm (expressed in terms of diameter). It is preferable that the size of crystals forming the ceramic is as small as <=5μm average particle diameter. The ceramic has relatively high strength and high toughness and Si3 N4 , SiC, ZrO2 or Al2 O3 may be utilized. |
