The helical type intake port 10 has an end spirally curved, generates an intake flow slewed in a lateral direction in the cylinder 1, that is, so-called swirl, and comprises a linear passage part 2, a slewing passage part 4 and a throat part 3, however, at this time, when Rt is represented as the opening radius of the throat part 3,αis represented as an angle formed against the center of the throat part 3 by the flow centroid position and optimum outflow position of a throat opening part 5, andγis represented as an intake lowering angle in the slewing passage 4, the height H of the throat opening part 5 i.s set to satisfy H=Rt.α.tanγ.
