PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stabilize a high-density lipoprotein(HDL) in serum useful as an index for arteriosclerosis, etc., so as to obtain an accurate measured value by adding 2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one serum. SOLUTION: A pooled serum preserved by a deep freezer within one month is dissolved, sufficiently mixed and blended with sucrose so as to make 5% (w/v) based on 1ml. An aqueous solution obtained by 2g of 2methyl-4- isothiazolin-3-one to 1ml of water is prepared, 10μl of the aqueous solution is added to 1ml of the serum, which is mixed, stored in a refrigerator for one night, filtered by a 0.2μm filter, preserved at 4 deg.C for two months. When the measured value of HDL cholesterol of the serum is compared with that of HDL cholesterol at a point of start, no change in the measured value is observed and the stabilization of the high-density lipoprotein(HDL) in serum is confirmed by the effect of the stabilizer.
