PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To record an image while suppressing the omission thereof to the minimum without causing an unnecessary unrecorded part on a recording material. SOLUTION: Image data (A) is stored in an image memory so that the data of respective pixels are arranged in the reading-out direction of the image data. Then, the position and the direction (inclination) of a photographic paper P are detected. When the inclination of the paper P is zero(C), the reading-out area [(a), (c), (f) and (g)] of the image data consisting of a side in parallel with the reading-out direction of the image data and sides perpendicular to the parallel side is set(B). When the inclination of the paper P isθ≠0 (E), the reading-out area [(a), (b), (h) and (i)] is set by being inclined as much as the inclination ofθwith respect to the reading-out direction of the image data(D). Then the image is recorded by being aligned with the detected position of the paper P based on the image data read out from the reading-out area of the image data.
