PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a hepatitis B e antigen (HBe) that has high specificity to HBe-positive serum and is useful as a marker of the hepatitis B virus (HBV) and as an index of persistence of the hepatitis, etc.. SOLUTION: This hepatitis B e antigen, a secretory protein that has an amino acid sequence of the formula (including proteins one or more amino acid sequences of which are deleted, substituted or added, and develop antigenicity to the hepatitis B e antigen) and well coincide with the quantity of HBV in blood, is obtained by preparing a corresponding DNA, integrating the obtained DNA with a vector, introducing the vector into an appropriate host, and expressing the antigen in the host. |
