PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound useful as a medicine for preventing and treating suppression of bone loss or bone resorption especially osteoporosis and hyperlipemia, cardiovascular diseases, etc. SOLUTION: This compound is represented by formula I [X is CH2 , CH(OH) or CO; R<1> is H, OH, O (1-4C alkyl), OCOAr (Ar is phenyl), etc.; R<2> to R<4> are each R<1> , F, Cl, a 1-4C alkyl, CF3 , etc.; (n) is 2 or 3; R<5> is 1-piperidinyl, 1- pyrrolidinyl, 4-morpholino, dimethylamino, etc.], e.g. [2-(3-fluoro-4- methoxyphenyl)-6-methoxybenzo[b]thien-3-yl][4-[2-(1-piperidinyl) ethoxy]phenyl]methanone. The compound represented by formula I is obtained by carrying out the coupling reaction of a 2-aminobenzothiophene represented by formula II [R<1a> is H or OR<7> (R<7> is a hydroxy-protecting group)] with an acid chloride, providing a keto-benzo[b]thiophine represented by formula III and then reacting the resultant compound with a compound represented by formula IV (R<2a> , R<3a> and R<4a> are each H, OR<7> , F, Cl, an alkyl or CF3 ).
