PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a microbial carrier having inexpensive and tough mechanical strength, excellent in fluidity and durability and suitable for fluidized bed type organism treatment for clarifying polluted water, etc., by impregnating granulates of a cellulosecontaining material into an aqueous solution of a thermally crosslinkable resin and heat-drying the impregnated material. SOLUTION: A cellulose-containing material such as pulp is formed into granules, preferably having 2-20mm particle diameter and the granules are impregnated into a solution of a thermally crosslinkable resin such as a mixture of a hydrolyzate of polyvinyl carboxylic amide (co)polymer with aldehydes and a granular cellulose-containing material impregnated with the thermally crosslinkable resin is heat-dried to provide the objective carrier having 0.95-1.10 specific gravity in water-containing state. Furthermore, weight ratio of the cellulose-containing material to the thermally crosslinkable resin is preferably (100/5) to (100/200).
|
