PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To read out all the picture elements obtained from an imaging device through one time exposure without increasing a clock frequency, especially, to improve the quality of a still picture. SOLUTION: A CCD 15 and a CCD driving circuit 18 are provided. Concerning video signals provided through one time of exposure within the period of 1/60sec, signals on odd-numbered lines are read out during the next period, and signals on even-numbered lines are read out further during the next period. The signal data of these odd-numbered lines are stored in a 1st memory 22 and the signal data of the even-numbered lines are stored in a 2nd memory 23. The data of the even-numbered lines can be read out by shielding light with a light chopper 36. Then, a mixer circuit 24 mixes the pixel data of odd-numbered and even- numbered lines and forms images for one frame based on these picture element mixing signals. Besides, when a freeze switch 17 is turned on, it is controlled to store only the image signals of odd-numbered and even-numbered lines provided at the same time of exposure in the memories 22 and 23 so that high- quality images can be provided.
