PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbon monoxide remover by which the selective oxidation catalyst bed is rapidly heated without supply of heat from the burner, etc. of a reformer at the time of starting-up it and to furnish a method for starting the remover. SOLUTION: When this remover is started, the gaseous mixture of fuel gas (reformed gas) and steam passed through a pipeline from a CO converter 4 is mixed with the air through a branch pipe 58a and introduced into a combustor 51. When the gas temp. is raised above the combustion initiating temp. of the combustor 51, the combustor 51 is spontaneously ignited, combustion is started and the high-temp. combustion gas passes a selective oxidation reactor 52 through a pipeline 57, and the reactor 52 is heated. Meanwhile, the reactor 52 is also heated by the circulating water heated by the heat generated by the combustion 51. |
