PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording carrier used for a recording system in which data can be written in a recording carrier having a recording layer of a different kind with a writing signal waveform being suitable for the kind of its recording layer. SOLUTION: The optically writable recording carrier 32 is provided with adaptive information indicating a writing signal waveform Vs required for recording an information signal Vi in the recording carrier 32. The recording system is provided with a recording device having a control circuit 62 for guiding the writing signal Vs from the information signal Vi. A recording device is provided with read-out sections 30, 38, 39, 40 reading out adaptive information for some time interval before recording. A control circuit 62 is provided with an adaptive circuit 66 adapting a writing signal waveform used at the time of recording to read out adaptive information.
