Navigational aid system for use in road vehicles

The navigation aid comprises a portable module which is arranged to be fitted in a removable fashion in a support frame which is mounted with the vehicle cabin. The aid includes a display panel (5) with several items of information including the point of departure for the journey, intermediate points and the journey destination. Graphical indications are provided to show the route of the journey (17a) and the possibility of obstructions such as road works. A further panel shows the distance to be covered and the estimated journey time (18). The panel is linked to a radio navigation system collecting and processing information in real time to give a current display of the journey status. Included within the available information is a measurement of the traffic density which influences estimate journey time.
