Separation of components of a gas mixture through membranes

Process for the separation of one or more gaseous components of a gas mixture by passing the mixture over a membrane consisting of a micro-porous layer which supports a "dense" layer in contact with a liquid absorbent. Also claimed is the equipment required for this process. Preferably a desorption process is carried out in a vessel identical to the absorption vessel by passing steam at least 110 deg C. into the gas space. The membrane materials must therefore withstand temperatures of about 150 deg C. The absorbed gas is then released and transported across the membrane. The support layer is made of micro-porous PTFE. The dense layer, having a thickness of about 1 mu m, is made of perfluorodioxol, namely a perfluorated ionomer layer.
