The invention concerns a method of determining a transmit frequency as an alternative to a transmit frequency set at a receiver, a new transmit frequency being selected as the alternative transmit frequency only when its reception quality is higher than that of the original transmit frequency and the program identifier associated therewith matches that of the original transmit frequency. As a result of repeated application of the comparison operations necessary for that purpose with a constantly corrected comparison field strength value, the transmit frequency which can be received best with a predetermined program identifier is selected from a group of transmit frequencies.
