PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new acaricide containing either of two kinds of specific highly safe compounds originated from natural materials as an active ingredient, exhibiting an excellent acaricidal effect, and extremely high in safety. SOLUTION: This acaricide contains the water or ethanol extract of Alpinia galanga or a phenylpropanoid contained in Eugenia aromatica or Peper betle as an active ingredient. The phenylpropanoid is a compound of formula I [R1 is CHR-CH=CH2 (R is H, an acyloxy); R2 -R4 are each H, OH, an alkoxy, etc., a group of formula II, or two of R2 -R4 together form a group of formula III], and is preferably selected from a 1-acetoxychavicol acetate of formula IV or its derivative and 1-acetoxyeugenol acetate of formula V (Me is methyl) or its derivative. Target acarids include Dermatophagoides farinae, Tyrophagus putrescentiae, Tarseonemus floricolus Canestrim and Franzago, FUTOTUMEDANI, Ornithonyssus bacoti, etc. |
