PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a sense of incompatibility from being given to a driver as surely checking the overspeed of an engine at the time of being altered to a manual shift mode from an automatic shift mode. SOLUTION: If engine speed NE goes beyond the range overspeed NOV when a manual mode is selected by a select lever, an overspeed shift flag FOV is set to '1', while a space of up-shift elapsed time T0 is cleared to '0' (steps S21 and S22). This up-shift elapsed time T0 is increased from the next processing time (step S6), and this elapsed time T0 is less than shift inhibiting time T1 equivalent to time till an up-shift completed, the processing is kept finished intact. With this constitution, both these up and down shifts are prohibited, and at a time when the elapsed time T0 has come to more than this shift inhibiting time T1, both these up and down shifts are tolerated (steps S18 and S20). |
