Sulfonium salts represented by general formula (I) which can cure cationically polymerizable compounds at 100 DEG C or below and can give one-pack mixtures thereof with cationically polymerizable compounds excellent in storage stability; polymerization initiators containing them; and curable compositions containing the same. In said formula (I), Ar1 is optionally substituted phenyl or naphthyl; R1 and R2 are each C1-C4 alkyl; Ar2 is phenyl optionally substituted with at least one alkoxy, hydroxyl or alkylcarbonyloxy group; and X is a non-nucleophilic anion residue.
