An automotive brake drum has a plate to which the inner brake shoes are secured. The brake plate is made of a light metal e.g. aluminium alloy, or a composite material resting on a cast metal component. The plate centre section (5) is surrounded by a collar with essentially radial ribbed (6) extensions to the brake shoe surfaces (3). The ribs (6) translate through a honeycomb (10) structure to the brake shoe surfaces (3).
