The appts. to produce glass-type optical elements, such as lenses, has a glass injection unit to inject the glass material under pressure into the hollow zone (6) of a mould while the glass is molten with a viscosity in the working range of glass. A mould press unit (40) applies pressure to the glass material in the moulding zone (6), in a stage following the injection stage. Also claimed is a process where the glass is melted to a viscosity equal to or less than the working condition of the glass. The molten glass material is injected under pressure into the hollow zone (6) between two moving mould sections (3,4) of a mould (1), between their surfaces forming the moulding zone.
