Modified nacreous lustre pigments for water paint systems are based on a plate-like substrate coated with metal oxides and a covering layer located on the top metal oxide layer. The covering layer is made of at least two oxides, a mixture of oxides and/or mixed oxides from the group of silicium dioxide, aluminium oxide, cerium oxide, titanium oxide and zirconium oxide, and of a water-based oligomer silane system.
