The outer (12) and inner (13) parts of the joint have outer (16) and inner (17) races respectively for balls (15) transmitting torque. A ball-retainer ring (14) has windows (19) each holding one of the ball bearings. The outer part is joined to an annular flange, and the inner part is joined to a connecting shaft. The useful length of the ball-races in one of the two joint parts is shorter, when the outer part moves in relation to the inner part, than the useful length of the ball races in the other of the two joint parts. Deformable stops at the end of the normal displacement path prevent the ball bearings from coming out of the ball races with the shorter length.
