Vehicle collision detection device for activating passenger safety device

The device responds to the detected acceleration provided by an acceleration detector (1) for indicating a collision, with calculation of the estimated collision force. The latter is used for determining the effect of the collision on the vehicle passengers, for activating passenger safety devices. The collision acceleration can be used for estimating the vehicle velocity during the collision and hence the movement resulting from impact in relation to a 3-dimensional coordinate system.
