Trap with swinging door is for rats and mice

The trap is for rodents. It consists of an elongated cage (1) with a door (3) at one end, hinged at the top and urged from the raised, open position toward the lowered, closed position by a spring (14). An elongated stirrup-shaped lever (12) is attached to the top edge of the door and the end (13) of the lever is engaged by a loop (11) on the upper end (10) of a lever supported on a pivoted crossbeam (9). The lower end (8) of the lever carries a flat plate (4) with a narrow gap (7) between its lower edge and the floor (2). Pieces of bait (18) are scattered on the floor in front of and behind the movable plate. When the animal tries to get at the bait behind the plate, the plate is pushed backwards, and the door at the entrance to the trap is released.
