The device is sunk into the ground or floor and has a tank (5), which serves as a storage chamber (10) for rainwater, and a seepage shaft (6). The tank has an intake (9) for rainwater and an overflow (19), through which rainwater flows into the seepage shaft, once the tank has been filled to a predetermined level. The device has an outlet (11) leading to a drain system for non-seeping water. The seepage shaft is arranged inside the tank and is separated from the storage chamber by a partition wall (4). The part of the tank wall that encloses the seepage shaft is perforated according to the water absorbability of the surrounding soil. A pipe (12) is provided to draw water out of the tank.
