The filter assembly, with a reverse flushing action, has an optical sensor (22) with a light emitting diode (LED) (24) and an initial photo diode (26), together with an electronic evaluation system (32). The reflection signal is related to the scattered light signal, to determine if the flushing action is to be triggered.
