Data sampling and acquisition method for computer tomography

The method involves acquiring data to provide a three-dimensional image of a region of interest of an object, which is smaller than the object itself and comprises an upper and a lower boundary. The boundaries lie completely within a visual field of an imaging system and are centred in a radial direction on a predetermined axis (12A). A movement path is determined, along which a source of radiation is moved, whereby the region of interest is scanned using the source (10) and a plane detector (14). The movement path forms a spiral with a number of steps and-or windings on a predetermined geometric surface surrounding the region of interest. The spiral extends beyond the upper and lower boundaries. The plane detector comprises a predetermined width which is dimensioned so that at least two successive windings of the spiral are covered.
