This key-less input device includes pressure-sensitive front or top plate (1), a printed circuit board (2) with several sensor fields (3), and, between the top plate and the board, a layer (4) of conducting material, preferably foam, fitted to form an air gap (8). The sensor fields are arranged as a two-dimensional matrix, connected by an A/D converter to a computer. In the board and the foam layer there is a recess for a display unit, to show symbols or numbers when the top plate is pressed by the finger, compressing the foam and changing the resistance between the conductors of the sensor fields and passing the information required to the machine control. |
