Disclosed is a method to eliminate a character caption, utilizing on-screen display. The method comprises an initialization routine(L1) and an on-screen display character output routine(L2). In the initialization routine(L1), a pointer is set to an initial point when an on-screen display shadow key is inputted, and when a microcomputer has discriminated location of the character caption whether on a vertical location or a horizontal location. In the on-screen display character output routine(L2), an initial and end locations are selected and stored according to a point key, and the on-screen display characters between the stored locations are displayed. Thereby, the on-screen display characters can be displayed on the character caption, so that the user's utilization can be improved.
