A metal gasket for an i. c. engine has a metal plate (A10) with a hole (A10a) having a bead (A10b) formed around its edge portion for sealing purposes. A first coating (A11a, A11b) covers the upper surface of the plate and the edge portion except for the bead (A10b), while a second coating (A12) covers most of the lower surface of the plate including the edge portion and the concave portion of the bead (A10b) so that, in use, reduction of surface pressure on the bead (A10b) is prevented and permeation of fluid, flowing through the hole (A10a), over the plate is prevented. Also claimed is a similar metal gasket including a second metal plate which has a curved portion located inside the hole (A10a) and a flange located above the edge portion of the first plate, further coatings being provided on the second plate face beyond the bead (A10b) and on the outer surface of the flange. |
