A mattress=base consists of a structural frame (1), preferably of metal tubing, and strips (2) of a synthetic material which has a high resistance to deformation but possesses a certain degree of elasticity. The strips are fitted individually to the frame, are tensioned mechanically to a specific level, and have their ends welded after passing round a frame member. The greater proportion of the synthetic strips (2) is fitted across the width of the frame, while a smaller number, spaced at greater intervals, is fitted in a lengthwise direction and interwoven with the transverse strips. The frame is made, for example, from lengths of tubular steel measuring 100 x 40 mm in cross section and having a wall thickness of 2.25mm, while the strips measure 12 mm wide by 0.5 mm thick, and have a breaking strain of 140 - 160 kg.
|
