Adapter device for a lifting lug for reinforcing lugs for lifting heavy articles and allowing the application of non-vertical forces upon lifting. The lifting-lug adapters according to a first embodiment includes a connection with an opening for connecting a bolt for joining it to lifting lugs which already exist. The groove-type openings ensure that only one vertical component of the lifting force is transferred to the lug. A separate part of the adapter is joined to the base of the lug or to another part of the heavy article in order to transfer there a horizontal component of the non-vertical lifting force. A second embodiment includes a lifting-lug adapter for use with lifting lugs with entries. The second adapter has a pair of joining members connected by means of pivots to the existing lugs and which extends upwards, outside the entry, in order to attach itself to an adapter for a lifting lug connected to non-vertical lifting forces. The lug of the adapter has a leg which extends downwards and is joined to the entry in order to transfer a horizontal component of the non-vertical lifting force away from the lug. The adapters for a lug dispense with the need for enormous cranes as they convert the non-vertical lifting force into a horizontal component absorbed by the heavy article and into a vertical lifting component which acts on the existing lugs. <IMAGE>
