The arrangement transmits the telephone and data signals using the same communications method and in the same transmission band. Changeover devices at both ends of the subscriber line (TL) enable speech and data signals to be combined for transmission and separation on reception for handling by a telephone terminal (FE) and a data terminal (PC). At least one telephone terminal or speech signal processor can be directly connected to the subscriber line. The changeover device (UT) automatically adopts the position in which the direct connection exists when the local current supply to the telephone terminal via the data terminal is interrupted.
