The inside roof lining(18) of the motor vehicle can be moved into a shortened state by the adjustment of a set of lamina plates(14) which act as a shutter element. The end sections(28,30) of the lamina plate set and corresponding end sections(20,24) of the roof lining are connected so that with movement of the end sections of the plates the end sections of the roof lining are carried along with them. The several flat panel elements which make up the roof lining lie one behind the other in the closed state and flat on top of each other or inside each other in the shortened state.
