The invention relates to filter having a cylindrical filter cartridge (2). Said cylindrical filter cartridge has a cylindrica exterior and a conical interior. The shape of the cylindrical filter cartridge can be obtained by correspondingly folding sheet-like filter material (8), whereby oblique folds (19) and straight folds (16) alternate. Half of the straight folds form the outer edges of the filter cartridge while the oblique filter edges form the inner edge of the filter cartridge. This design of the filter cartridge permits a large effective filter area to be accommodated in limited space. At the same time, the conical interior of the filter cartridge permits a sufficiently large cross-section of the air outlet.
