PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remarkably reduce the oxidation of an alloy at the time of hot working and treatment and to furthermore improve its cold workability, in aβtype alloy contg. a large amt. of V, by adding specified amounts of Zr and Fe having a workability improving effect and Al and Cr having oxidation preventing effect at the time of a high temp. heating. SOLUTION: This Ti alloy contains, by weight, 15 to 22% V, 2 to 5% Al, 0.1 to 5% Cr, 0.1 to 10% Zr, <=5% Fe, and the balance Ti. Al is the element for stabilizingαphases, is essential for its strengthening by the precipitation of fineαphases after aging and is contained also for improving its oxidation resistance, but, in the case of above the upper limit, its cold workability deteriorates. Cr is the element for stabilizingβphases and improves the adhesion of surface oxidized coating, but, in the case of less than the lower limit, the improving effect is insufficient, and even in the case of above the upper limit, the effect is saturated. Zr improves its strength, and in the case of less than the lower limit, the refining of the crystal grains which is thought to improve its workability is insufficient, and even in the case of above the upper limit, the effect is saturated. Fe may not be added, but the content of expensive Zr can be reduced.
