PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an industrially preferable aromatic polycarbonate, capable of producing an aromatic polycarbonate as much as possible by a polymerizer as small as possible without discoloration and without formation of foreign matter. SOLUTION: In this method for producing an aromatic polycarbonate from an aromatic dihydroxy compound and a diaryl carbonate by a polymerizer for carrying out polymerization while dripping the reaction mixture along an internally installed material, the polymerizer having the ratio of the total area S(m<2> ) of the internally installed material/the inner volume V(m<3> ) of the polymerizer in the range of 0.1-300 and a value of clearance L (m) between the surface of the internally installed material and the inner wall face of the polymerizer and the number-average molecular weight Mn of the produced aromatic polycarbonate satisfying the relationship of the equation L>=5×10<-6> Mn.
