摘要 <p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the danger of hydrogen explosion due to the accumulation of gaseous hydrogen generated from a cathode with respect to the electrochemical device provided with an electrochemical element with a solid high molecular electrolyte used as a hydrogen ion-exchange membrane held between an anode to be impressed with a DC voltage and the cathode. SOLUTION: A solid high molecular electrolyte membrane 14 used as a hydrogen ion-exchange membrane is held between a negative electrode 13 for ionizing hydrogen and a positive electrode 12 for generating hydrogen and consuming oxygen to constitute a fuel cell-type hydrogen sensor 11 on the cathode 3 side of an electrochemical element 1, the negative electrode 13 is confronted with the cathode 3 of the element 1, and a shielding compartment 15 having a cavity 16 formed between the cathode 3 and negative electrode 13 and an opening 17 for introducing air into the cavity 16 is formed.</p>
