The substitute is used as a tonicizing drink and prophylacticagent for patients with gastritis and ulcers, as well as forpeople having cardiovascular, gall-and-liver and nephric problems,neurosis, hypertension, for pregnant and nursing mothers. Theherbs and vegetative products containing it have gastric andduodenal protective effect and antiacidic properties. The drink bytaste and aroma is very near to natural coffee which makes it moreattractive to the consumer. The substitute contained overroastedand ground barley grains, mucous-type herbs such as lungwort,mullein, mallow, wide-leaf plantein, St John's wort, medicinalherbs containing bitter substances: gentian and hop, and inulinsuch as mullein and chickory roots, as well as vegetation productsaccelerating the evacuation of the stomach: barley and alfalfa.(11) 204
