The HV earthing switch, is attached to switchgear. A pivoting conducting tube is operated via drive shaft and linkage. It executes an axial sliding movement for contact locking after it has reached its vertical end position. The torque required for the pivoting motion is transferred via the mechanically locked linkage. This locking is removed at the end of the pivot motion to allow the axial sliding motion. The locking mechanism consists of a fixed segment and a guide fixed to the conducting tube.
