PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for fabricating an optical fiber grating are provided to reduce a fabrication time, thereby improving the yield, and to fabricate many optical fiber grating at the same time. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for fabricating an optical fiber grating consists of a high-power laser beam source(10), a lens(20) focusing a laser beam, and a phase mask(30), and a fixing bar(41) supporting an optical fiber(50a,50b). The fixing bar is formed with a V-groove(44a,44b) for holding the optical fiber. The phase mask is installed to contact with a non-coating portion of the optical fiber. A grating being formed on the optical fiber due to a refraction variation of the optical fiber core having the photosensitivity. Two or more optical fibers are uniformly arranged. The phase mask is disposed on the optical fiber so that the phase mask covers an area of the optical fiber grating. The laser beam which changes the refraction degree is irradiated on the phase mask to cover the area of the optical fiber grating. In this way, many optical fiber grating are formed at the same time.
