PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To use the parts of a valve system in common with a present non- incylinder injection type engine by a method wherein an injector is mounted at an optimum mounting angle, air-fuel mixture is trapped in a cavity without forming a projection body on a piston top surface, fuel injection at the early stage of a compression stroke is practicable, air-fuel mixture is unifomized, a mounting space for an injector is ensured, the mounting angle of the injector is freely set, and the injector is mounted in an erecting state without remarkably varying a valve system. SOLUTION: In an in-cylinder injection type engine wherein an injector to inject fuel directly against a combustion chamber is mounted, provided the stroke of a piston is S and the bore diameter of a cylinder is B, the injector is mounted such that the mounting angleθof the injector with a cylinder axis satisfies a relation of Tan<-1> (B/S)>θ>Tan<-n> (B/2S).
