PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming device and an image forming method capable of shortening the changing time of plural process unit cartridges. SOLUTION: A printer control circuit 1 connected to a printer controller 11 is provided with an image forming part 2, a driving circuit 4, a bias control circuit 7, an initial mode switching control part 24, a door opening/closing detection part 25, a driving circuit 53 and a printing part 54. In the case opening the door is detected by the detection part 25 and toner cartridge door opening detection information is given, a cartridge changing mode flag(FLG) is set. When closing the door is detected, a mode is transited to a cartridge changing mode by the control part 24 in the case a cartridge changing mode flag(FLG) = 1 holds. In the cartridge changing mode, a toner cartridge driving signal is outputted from the circuit 53 so as to drive a toner cartridge to a specified takeout position. Meanwhile, ordinary initial processing is executed in the case the cartridge changing mode flag(FLG) = 1 does not hold.
