PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make light a part which becomes a shadow with backlight and reduce the loss of details for a light part. SOLUTION: An inflection indication valueαis set for a low-luminance part of an input and a valueβ(e.g. 220) which is slightly less than the maximum value (set to 255) of luminance is selected as an output value, corresponding to the inflection indication valueαand regarded as an inflection point (p); and the relation between the input and an output is represented with a straight line (which may be a tone curve), connecting the coordinates (0, 0) of the origin and the coordinates (α,β) of the inflection point (p) until the inputted luminance value reaches the said inflection indication pointαand then represented with a straight line connecting the coordinates (α,β) of the inflection point (p) and the coordinates (255, 255) of the maximum value of the input and output after the input value exceeds the inflection point (a), thus generating a conversion table. This conversion table is used to perform a converting process.
