PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a quick and accurate operation even when high density recording information is read. SOLUTION: A tilt sensor 8 detects an angle of tilt in the radial direction between an information recording surface of an optical disc and the optical axis of an objective lens and a liquid crystal panel driving circuit 9 variably drives parts of a liquid crystal panel having a transparent electrode divided. The driving circuit 9 adjusts and drives the divided parts of the tilt detection liquid crystal panel so that a phase difference is eased between laser lights respectively passing therethrough. Non-linear circuits 13 and 14 are used in an area where the characteristic of the phase difference becomes non-linear with respect to a drive voltage.
